In some homes, dinner time is a social event where family comes together to share the news along with a meal.
But for some seniors on limited budgets, supper might be a lonely slice of bread or a ready-made meal.
In March, Community First approved a plan to make New West better for our elderly neighbours. Part of the plan is hosting a community kitchen where seniors can get together to learn some new cooking skills, try foods from different cultures, and enjoy some good company.
To that end, the Province has just awarded New West $15,000 to help staff plan the activities and reach out to vulnerable seniors.
Everyone deserves to enjoy a good meal with friends. We’re thankful for the grant to help us create this opportunity for our elders.
