E scooters

E-scooters can be a convenient way to navigate the hills of New West! But they can also be dangerous at high speeds, particularly when people aren’t wearing helmets.

We all need more clarity around the rules so pedestrians, drivers, and e-scooter riders know what to expect from each other. And we need enforcement to make sure no one is taking unnecessary risks.

Councillor Tasha Henderson recently called on the Province to take a stand on laws around e-scooter usage.

“It’s nonsense,” said New Westminster Coun. Tasha Henderson, of the province’s seven-year pilot program to study e-scooter uses in certain municipalities. “Seven years is ridiculous. We need blanket legislation so we have direction on how we're going to enforce the laws, and what direction we're going to take around engineering to make roads safer."
Municipal councillors can’t change the laws around e-scooters. But we can keep pushing the Province to make choices that keep everyone safe.
